A vector graphic (Adobe Illustrator) uses math to calculate a curve before it is plotted vs a bitmap graphic (Photoshop) assigns a value to each pixel in a document.

Product and technical illustrations can win out over photography in numerous ways:
• Vector art can be sized up or down with no loss of resolution; use it on a billboard or a business card.
• A line of products usually shares common elements which once illustrated can be copied to the next product, reducing overall cost. When possible, model year changes can be incorporated into existing artwork.
• Illustrations can be created before an item is actually produced. This allows the client to show product without having to wait for production and photography.
